Prince Charles - Grand Opening

Prince Charles attended the grand opening of the Perseus and Andromeda Fountain at Witley Court in Worcestershire, held in November last year by English Heritage. Sean Collins and Derick Clarke the architect walked around the fountain, chatting to Prince Charles and answering his questions. He seemed very interested to discover what training opportunities were available in stonemasonry so that the skills will be preserved for the future. It was good to be able to report to him that a company as small as ours has 4 apprentices currently in training.

New Saws

We have invested in new machinery this year which has increased our production enormously. We not only keep our own sites supplied with stone, but can supply builders as well.

We have 4 apprentices who are just starting their second year's training with us. Their academic work is undertaken at Bath College. We are also taking on a new apprentice this year who will study the newly established Stonemasonry course at our local Moulton College.

We recently entered our apprentices in a stonemasonry competition held every year in Junas, in the South of France. We were thrilled to see one of them come second in the competition. They had to make a stone bench over a period of two days.

Another of our apprentices has been put forward by Bath College to represent them in the college competition held by the Stone Federation.

North Marston Church

We are currently undertaking the remaining restoration work to the tower at North Marston Church. Some years ago we carried out the work to the top in Phase I. The work is due to finish by Christmas this year and has been an English Heritage grant aided project.
